Will The Wedding Bells Be Another Smash Hit for Writer/Producer David E. Kelley?

Julia Williams
The Wedding Bells, a one-hour romantic comedy/drama about three sisters who run a wedding planning business, is Emmy Award winner David E. Kelley's latest foray into television.

David E. Kelly is a writing workhorse and a brilliant wordsmith who's adept at creating unforgettable characters. His ensemble casts are a delightful mix of offbeat personalities that play perfectly off one another.

Kelley's shows are famous for their whimsical wit, quirky comedic bits and surreal touches (who could ever forget the wickedly funny Dancing Baby on Ally McBeal?), as well as gritty drama, suspense and seriousness.

As a David E. Kelley fan from his early "L.A. Law" days in the 80s, I have high hopes this new television series will be a huge success. And if I fall hopelessly, helplessly in love with his latest cast of characters like I did those on Ally McBeal, The Practice, Picket Fences and Boston Legal, I'll be devastated if The Wedding Bells doesn't last. But enough about me-let's get on with a description of the show!

The Wedding Bells Premise

The FOX network describes The Wedding Bells as "a romantic dramedy about a family-owned wedding planning business dedicated to helping its clients live happily ever after... or at least until they get to the parking lot."

The Setup

After their parents divorce, the Bell sisters ANNIE (KaDee Strickland), JANE (Teri Polo) and SAMMY (Sarah Jones), take over the family wedding planning business, called The Wedding Palace. The sisters must figure out how to placate demanding Bridezillas, calm wedding-day jitters and pull off elaborate weddings, all while dealing with their own equally complex love lives.

The trio of wedding planners is committed to making sure that every wedding is a bride's dream come true. Their lofty goal is to take their company from wedding emporium to wedding empire.

The Complications

When one of the sister's husbands takes over as the company COO, he clashes with them all as he attempts to cut costs and attract wealthy clientele.

The Cast

In addition to the three sisters, the Wedding Bells cast includes Missi Pyle, Benjamin King, Chris Williams and Michael Landes.

The Wedding Bells one-hour pilot is titled "For Whom the Bells Toll." It premieres on the FOX network Wednesday, March 7 following the American Idol show, and will repeat on Friday, March 9. Assuming the show is picked up by FOX (and I just KNOW it will be), the series regular time slot will be Friday at 9:00 p.m. EST.

Three cheers to writer-producer David E. Kelley for creating what is sure to be another awesome television dramedy.
