Will the New York Jets Have Another Brett as Their QB?
Favre is Gone; Will Brett Ratliff Be the Next Brett to Quarterback the Jets?
Kellen Clemens, the Jets 2nd round pick in the 2006 draft, will finally have a chance to prove he's capable of leading the Jets team. Clemens has started 8 games in his career, with less then stellar results. In the 2007 season, where Clemens started half the games, he completed 52% of his passes for 1,529 yards and 5 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. While he struggled initially, like many young quarterbacks, Clemens, theoretically has improved, by sitting, watching and learning this past season. Stability should also help Clemens. While the Jets have a new head coach, Brian Schottenheimer, who has been with the team since Clemens was drafted, remains the teams offensive coordinator.
While it would appear Clemens has the upper hand on the starting job, he will be pushed by Brett Ratliff. Ratliff the former University of Utah quarterback was undrafted and signed as a rookie free agent in 2007. During his 2006 season at Utah, Ratliff passed for 2,796 yards, 23 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. The strong armed QB has worked hard to stick with the Jets after not being drafted and now has a chance to compete for the starting job.
Will the Jets give their young quarterbacks a chance, or will they make a push to land the much talked about, Jay Cutler. The Jets own the 17th pick in this years draft and if Josh Freeman or one of the other QB's Sanchez or Stafford, fall to them, the Jets will be tempted. Whoever lines up under center for the Jets, will need more offensive weapons. The Jets could use another receiver, tight end and possible running back.
Could there be another Brett under center for the Jets in 2009?
