Willow on Her Message
Will and Jada's little girl has the confidence of both her talented parents and is not afraid to be vocal about what matters to her. What is top on the list apparently is just being herself, despite what others may think. That is the core of the message in "Whip My Hair". Willow feels very strong about being secure in one's own skin, "...don't be afraid to be yourself and don't let anybody tell you that that's wrong. Because the best thing is you."
What Do Parent's Have to Say About Willow Smith?
On various forums, video comments and social networks like Facebook, it seems parents approve of the pint-size talent and her message. Doris Bias, 52 of Maryland, likes what Willow is doing, "I think she is having fun. It is a fun song. She is doing what all little girls do, they like to dress up and sing and yes whip their hair back and forth!" Trust me when I say a lot of little girls were whipping their hair back and forth before this song came out. Now they have their own theme music to whip their hair to.
Things Willow Has Right So Far
So far, Willow Smith seems to be on the right track, which I am sure her parents have a lot to do with this.
- She dresses fashionably without trying to be an adult.
- She wants kids to be free to express themselves and not be afraid to be who they are (something children need desperately right now in the wake of the bullying related suicides this year)
- She is happy to be a kid
For the first time in decades children under 13 have an entertainer who is age appropriate for them. I feel better seeing three-year olds whip their hair and back forth to Willow than when they followed Hannah Montana around singing about relationships (a subject too mature for a toddler to grasp). Even though Willow and her mother Jada Pinket Smith called the kids in Willow's video Warriorettes, I feel all little girls who are not afraid to be individuals can take on that name as well. As Willow explained to MTV News, "It takes a warrior to stand up for themselves and not let anybody tell them that what they're wearing or what they're saying or what they're doing is wrong." Wise words from Roc Nation's newest signee.

Post a CommentAgree! Her parents, especially her mom, seem like they are excellent role models and will guide her as well.
Good for her! Good for the Smith family. They seem to be keeping a level-head. Happy to be a kid - so important. Because others, like Miley Cyrus, just wanted to grow up too fast.
Awww she seems great...I'll have to check her out..thanks for sharing!!
I think she is a doll as well. I personally think she dresses a little wild but it is still kid level wild. She is the Punk-R&B child of Roc Nation.
She is a doll-- Great article =0)
