Dale, Indiana, is one of those such small towns with a local diner that has not only been serving up good, hearty food since 1947, but still does a steady business in modern day 2007. Far from being obsolete, Windell's restaurant has been featured in Midwest Living magazine and also recently featured on the Food Network special 'The Best Of'. Recent up-to-date remodeling makes sure the local diner stays with the times while also expanding the availabe dining capacity so more folks can have the Windell's dining experience in comfort.
Windell's serves up rich and delicious made from scratch desserts that still use the same recipes from back in 1947, along with their classic fried chicken and many other good home-cooked foods. It was those pies, cobblers and cheesecake that brought Windell's a notable feature listing in Midwest magazine. While their classic fried chicken won Windell's a feature spot on the Food Network 'The Best Of' show. Today's Windell's offers those same famous desserts, that classic fried chicken as well as delicious and filling plate lunches and mouth-watering catering options.
Boasting the area's only 'horseshoe bar', Windell's serves many faithful regulars that can often be found at the horseshoe shaped counter enjoying morning coffee before beginning their day or stopping in for the noontime meal. The Windell's actual menu includes plate lunches such as chicken and dumplings, the classic fried chicken, meatloaf, and liver and onions, just to name a few choices offered daily. A buffet featuring many of Windells' most popular items is offered nightly, giving folks a chance to try many of the delicious offerings.
The small town that is home to Windell's restaurant is Dale, located on Highway 231 in rural Spencer County, Indiana. While you will most likely not 'happen by' the area, it is worth a stop if you are on the route-maybe heading for Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana or some such fun in the area.
With all the home cooked offerings and small town charm, it is easy to see why Windell's restaurant is a lasting local icon the town can be proud of.
