Windex with Vinegar: Is it Better Than Regular Windex?

Robert Borden
Windex has always been one of my absolute favorite cleaning products. Not only can you polish glass to a streak-free shine using Windex, but it also works great to clean wood furniture, toilets, and sinks. I've always used the "regular," blue Windex because I like the way it smells and I know it has cleaning power I can trust. Recently, I went to pick up a bottle of Windex at Target, but when I got to the store, they were completely sold out. They did, however, have a different product called Windex with Vinegar, which was a clear liquid instead of the normal blue color. I know that many household cleaning experts recommend cleaning with vinegar, and the price was comparable to regular Windex, so I decided to pick up a bottle of Windex with Vinegar and give it a try.

When I got home and opened the product, the first thing I noticed was the difference in smell. The Windex with Vinegar did not smell like the regular blue Windex, and had a distinctive, acidic odor to it. The smell of the Windex with Vinegar wasn't necessarily unpleasant, but I did not care for it as much as the smell of the blue Windex. For most of my cleaning tasks, I think the Windex with Vinegar had the same cleaning power as regular Windex. I was able to use it to clean up sinks and countertops with no problem at all. However, I really did notice a big difference when I tried to use the product to clean glass. With regular Windex, I am used to the product drying completely and leaving my glass absolutely spotless with no streaks whatsoever. The Windex with Vinegar didn't seem to perform the same way, and after I was done cleaning the glass there were definitely a few spots and streaks left behind. I would expect this from a normal cleaning product, but since Windex is supposed to be specifically for glass, I have to say I was disappointed.

In the end, I have to say that I didn't particularly care for the Windex with Vinegar. It didn't leave my house smelling clean like normal Windex does, and while it handled most cleaning tasks well, I was very disappointed in it's performance on glass. I know a lot of people are trying to use products that are more natural and environmentally friendly these days, but in the end I think that the regular, blue Windex is a better product.
