Windows 7 Image Resizer PowerToy Clone

TechTips
Ever since Windows 7 came out people have been asking for a similar image resizing tool like Windows XP had included in the PowerToys. It was a long wait but finally someone has completed the project and it works identically to the older XP version. This guide will explain where to get the tool and how to use it.

To download the Windows 7 image resizer tool go to this link CodePlex Image Resizer, download the program and install it, they have both 32 and 64 bit versions of the software. It's a simple install and doesn't take much to install, just accept the license and click install, when it's done simply click finish. It may look like nothing was installed but the beauty of this tool is you simply have to right click photos to resize them.

Here is a quick walk through of how to resize an image to a smaller and larger size, follow these steps:

1 - Open the location of your photo (mine was C:\test photos)
2 - Right click on photo you want resized
3 - Click Resize Pictures
4 - Hit Enter
5 - Choose the size you want (each has a good description of how big to expect the photo to be)
6 - Click OK

Now give the program just a minute to work and it will create a duplicate of the photo you clicked on named identically except that it will include the size on the end of the file name. My photo was called test.jpg now I have a second photo called test (Small).jpg (you may not see the .jpg depending on your settings) either way you should see two identical photos just with different files names. Now you can use the new smaller/larger file for whatever you wanted it for. Very simple program to use and very useful, especially if you are trying to make photos small enough for a cell phone or something like that.

There are some more advanced settings that you can tweak on the program as well, just click advanced and you have the option to create a custom size photo, set the program to make pictures smaller but not larger and resize the original picture (doesn't make a copy and can't be easily reversed). If you make changes here make sure you are sure you know what you are doing.

Well if you are like me this program is one you will use a lot and it's going to save you a lot of time! Hope you found this guide useful.
