In some of my Vista reviews, I have commented that using Vista "Is like taking a VCR tape and trying to play it on a DVD player." As I write today, I am still working with a Vista operating system simply because my computer blew-up and not by choice. I'm writing this to let you know that I am skeptical that Window 7 is going to be a better product or even worth the upgrade.
It seems over the last few years that the vision Microsoft has for its products is greater than what the underlying hardware architecture and current network systems can handle. I cringe when I hear a Microsoft Representative talk about how they are making the product "easier to use." It never has been. Every upgrade has left me cringing in fear wondering what it would do to my system and the programs I most use.
Therefore, in anticipation of my current computer dying, I have done research to see how this version is "Better than Vista." However, all I see the same sales pitches from other versions including the pitch about "Free Software." They seem to love to change the look of the Desktop but fail to consider that all those wonderful graphics are memory pigs. For common computer users, that means they eat up your memory space, but provide little in terms of performance.
Microsoft is talking about having a stronger security in Windows 7. However, who needs it in an operating system, especially, when you have Norton or another trusted security services available with almost daily upgrades on leading edge security issues. I have something like this with Vista and all it does is slow down my computer, until I figured out how to disable it. It also conflicted with my chosen security product!
Most of the "New" and exciting features are just improvements that they should have given Vista users free, because of all the suffering we have had to endure using their products. My problem is that every Windows version, since the first upgrade, has been a buggy programming mess on its release and users has to suffer almost weekly patches in order to fix problems.
I no longer have the confidence in Microsoft to build the best OS system and I look to the day when I can purchase a product that will not take up a month of my time to debug and get running effectively. Until then I don't plan to buy this latest publicity campaign because the product itself is nothing new on the front end. By the way, for all the technical people creating software out there that is the most important part for some who actually uses the stuff.
Microsoft 7 release basic, which is their no frills upgrade, will cost $119.99. This is hilarious during the best of times and ridicules during a recession especially since most other computer products are going down in price.
Who is working for this company? How do they talk to within the industry? Isn't there anyone they know, who is not willing to kiss their a**? Any consumer could tell them the pricing is a rip off. Still if you want the new Windows 7, I suggest you wait a couple of months until they have to drop the price. The tentative release date for this version of Windows is October 22.
