Windows Mobile 7 Rumors

It is Getting Closer to the Official Unveiling...What Are the Current Rumors?

Dominique Williams
It is almost time for Windows Mobile 7 to make its debut! On February 15, 2010, the Windows Mobile 7 unveiling will be official! For almost a year, there have been rumors and supposedly "leaked" images of the new Windows Mobile 7. Now that it is almost time for the official unveiling, PPCGeeks and MobileTechWorld have what they claim to be detailed information on the new Windows Mobile 7 platform. Here is a list of the following rumors:

WM7 will have an all new interface codenamed "METRO" and will be very similar to Zune HD

Social networking will be fully supported

No Flash support due to time constraints

No Multi-Task support. Applications will pause while in the background

Marketplace will support "Try Before You Buy" feature and API support

Silverlight 3.0 will be included

No NETCF backwards capability

Full Zune Integration

Full XBOX Integration (achievements, Gamertag, friends, & so much more)

Zune software will officially handle all synching. No more Windows Mobile Device Center or active sync

OEM Interfaces will not be able to run on the device

Microsoft is confident that devices will be ready by September 2010

Microsoft will provide a hosted push notifications environment

Browser will be based upon IE7 codebase but will have IE8 functionality

The new Windows Mobile 7 platform seems to have an all new interface and all new functionality. I have loved previous versions of Windows Mobile and I believe Windows Mobile 7 will be no exception. Although these are all rumors, it seems pretty consistent with the rumored Zune Phone. Could it be possible that this new Windows Mobile platform is the same as the Zune Phone or could it possibly be two separate entities? There have also been rumors of "Project Pink" being different from the Windows Mobile 7 consumer phone. Project Pink began to surface in 2008 when Microsoft acquired Danger (makers of the T-Mobile Sidekick). If this is true, Microsoft will have three different sets of mobile phone software. Microsoft seems to have a lot of big things brewing in the labs concerning these current rumors. I am personally ready to know more details! The Windows Mobile 7 platform will be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress Event on February 15, 2010.
