Windows Server 2008: The Most Powerful Operating System Yet

A Brief Review of Microsoft's Latest Server Operating System

The Armchair Geek
Windows Server 2008 is the next generation of the Windows Server operating systems to be released by Microsoft. It is widely regarded as the most crucial enterprise launch in Microsoft's history. Windows Server 2008 will be to the Windows Vista's server what Windows Server 2003 was Windows XP's server. This latest server OS will be officially be released on February 27, 2008.

Windows Server 2008 is developed based on the same source code as Windows Vista. As such, many of the features are very similar. Windows Server 2008 benefits from the same upgraded technical, security, and administrative features in Windows Vista.

The most prominent feature in Windows Server 2008 is its new method of installation called Server Core. It does not require any Windows Explorer shell and all operations are done through a command line interface. Server Core gets rid of features such as the .NET Framework, Internet Explorer and other features and applications not related to the server core.

The primary purpose of this upgrade is to provide Windows based computers with central authentication and authorization services. With Active Directory, you can store business-related information and even your settings in a convenient database.

In Windows Server 2008, Active Directory is expanded to include identity, certificate, and rights management services. Additional roles are being included such as: Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS), Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (ADLDS), Active Directory Certificate Services (ADCS), and Active Directory Rights Management Services (ADRMS). With the use of these certificate services, administrators are able to access certain services.

Active Directory provides administrators with certificate, identity and rights management services. Certificate services that administrators can access through Windows Server 2008 include:
*Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (ADLDS),
*Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS),
*Active Directory Rights Management Services (ADRMS) and
*Active Directory Certificate Services (ADCS).

Terminal Services has also been upgraded in Windows Server 2008. Terminal services allows the user to access data stored on a remote computer using a network connection. The most significant is the ability to share a single application over a Remote Desktop connection. Terminal Services also include new features like Terminal Services Gateway and Terminal Services Web Access.

Yet another major improvement included in Windows Server 2008 is the new PowerShell. This is Microsoft's new command line shell and task scripting technology. It is based on object-oriented programming and can be used to create command scripts and administrative utilities. Windows Server 2008 will be the first operating system to come shipped with PowerShell.

Windows 2008 is slated to be the most robust and versatile of all the Windows server operating systems.

Sorry, but Ubuntu Server Editon is waaaaaaaaAAaaAAAay more powerful than Windows will ever be.
Windows is crap, and will always be. No need for me to elaborate on that if you use Windows on a daily basis.

Linux and Unix is the most powerful operating systems available to the common user. Windows will NEVER be in the same league no matter what they do to it.

    The Most Powerful Operating System?

How many super computers run it? How many banks use it? Does Google crawl the web with it? Weather forecasts? Simulations of particle physics?

    None of them!!!!!
