Wine Festivals
Two local wine tasting events are coming up in September, the Gettysburg Wine and Music Festival and Wine Tasting on the Hill. Both events are rain or shine.
The dates for the Gettysburg Wine and Music Festival are the weekend of September 12 and 13, 2009. Attend either day from Noon to 6 PM at the Gateway Gettysburg Complex, 95 Presidential Circle. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 on site and include a souvenir wine glass, wine samplings, and live music. Designated drivers get a discount. Click here for participating wineries.
Wine Tasting on the Hill begins September 26 and continues on September 27 from Noon to 6 PM both days. The location is Pleasant Hill Fire Company Carnival Grounds five miles south of Hanover, Pennsylvania on Route 94. Tickets are $10 in advance (see the website for Hanover locations) or $15 at the gate. The participating wineries are Allegro Winery, Cullari Vineyards & Winery, Four Springs Winery, Marburg Estate Winery, Sand Castle Winery, Stonekeep Meadery, and West Hanover Winery.
Wine Trails
Following a wine trail is a fun way to spend a beautiful fall day. Many of the wineries on a trail have their own events planned for the season. Pick two or three wineries on a trail, check the hours of operation on their websites, then map out your day.
In South Central Pennsylvania we have the Mason-Dixon Wine Trail and the Uncork York Wine Trail.
Mason-Dixon Wine Trail
Adams County Winery, Farm Winery, 251 Peach Tree Road, Ortanna, PA 17353. This winery is presenting a Free Summer Concert Series on Saturdays August 22 and 29 from 1-5 PM.
Allegro Vineyards 3475 Sechrist Road, Brogue, Pennsylvania 17309. Events occur at two locations:
At the winery in Brogue the band Maiden Ground performs on Saturday August 22, 2-4 PM. Tickets are $8 per single, $15 per couple and include a $3 credit. Call (717) 927-9148 for reservations.
At Allegro Wine Gallery, Olde Tollgate Village, York, PA there is live music and wine tasting on Saturdays 2-5 PM on September 12, October 10, November 14 and December 12. Call (717) 741-3072 for reservations. The $8 admission includes 2 glasses of wine, appetizers and entertainment.
Also at the Allegro Wine Gallery the Women's Wine & UnWind will be held on Friday, August 28th from 5 to 7 p.m.
Naylor Wine Cellars, Naylor Wine Cellars, 4069 Vineyard Road, Stewartstown, PA 17363. On Friday and Saturday nights enjoy the Summer Sounds '09 Series. It's classic rock on Friday night August 21 and Big Band on Saturday nights August 22, 29 and September 5, 12. Admission is $13.50.

Adams County Winery, Allegro Vineyards and Naylor Wine Cellars are also on this trail.
Cullari Vineyard and Winery has a tasting room at 1251 East Chocolate Ave (Route 422), Hershey, PA 17033.
Hauser Estate Winery 410 Cashtown Road, Biglerville, PA . This winery sponsors "Hauser After Hours" every weekend on either Friday or Saturday night (see website) 5-8 PM August through October. There is free music and catered food for $ 10-15.
Marburg Estate Winery 2025 Locust Road, Spring Grove, Pennsylvania 17362. Call the winery at (717) 633-7760 to make a private wine tasting appointment.
Moon Dancer Vineyard & Winery 1282 Klines Run Rd. Wrightsville, PA 17368. Moon Dancer holds its 3rd Annual Moon Dancer Winery Folk Festival on September 5 and 6 from 2-10 PM each day. Admission is $20 per day.
Nissley Vineyards & Winery Estate 140 Vintage Drive, Bainbridge, PA (717) 426-3514. "Music in the Vineyards" are Saturday night lawn concerts from 7:30-10 PM. Roof Rockers are playing on August 29 and Flashback with Donna Mark on September 5. Admission is $15.
Reid's Orchard Inc. 2135 Buchanan Valley Road, Orrtanna, PA 17353 (717)677-7047. Also outside Gettysburg, this winery is a neighbor to Hauser Estate Winery.
