Materials: wine glasses, glitter (your choice of color), paper plate, sequins (they come in various shapes: hearts, flowers, stars etc), food coloring, floating candles, wire ribbon, glue gun. Note: If you don't have any wine glasses you care to part with, garage sales and thrift stores are inexpensive resources.
To begin making the wine glass candle holders, start with a clean and dry wine glass. Sprinkle some glitter, in the color of your choice onto the paper plate. Using the hot glue gun, run a continuous bead of hot glue along the rim of the wine glass. Holding the wine glass by the stem, turn the glass upside down and lightly press the rim of the glass into the glitter. Gently tap the wine glass up and down to insure the entire rim is covered with the glitter.
Now you are ready to start adding the sequins to the outside of the wine glass. Add a small dot of glue to the back of the sequin and press onto the glass, continue adding the sequins positioning them anyway you like. Just be sure not to over do it, you want the overall design to compliment each other for an elegant look. Once the sequins have been added and are dry, fill the glasses about halfway full with water. Add a drop of food coloring to the water and mix it well. Be sure to experiment with the food coloring, to come up with different color options. Now add a large pinch of the glitter to the water, and swirl it in. Place a floating candle into the wine glass. To finish the wine glass holder, tie a wire ribbon around the bottom of the stem and shape it into a bow.
Floating candles come in a variety of shapes just like the sequins, you can purchase them in the shape of hearts, stars, roses, etc. You can use your floating candle to determine the theme of your wine glass candle holders. Also wine glasses can be purchased in a variety of shapes and sizes, so you can group three or four wine glass candle holders together to create a beautiful vignette.
Caution: Never leave lit candles unattended.
