Wineries to Visit in Puget Sound, Washington
Happy Tasting in Port Angeles, Port Townsend and Bainbridge Island
Puget Sound, WA 98220
Olympic Cellars
255410 Hwy 101
Port Angeles, WA 98362
This is the best winery I've seen. It's in a 100+ year old barn with a great view of the Olympics. Very comforting and pleasing.
Wine is great tasting and prices are good.
Plus, the owners are very friendly and inviting. It's a woman owned business and they produce the famous 'Working Girls' series. They also pair up for very elegant dinners in conjunction with McCormick's in Seattle. That is an ideal way to become familiar with their wines.
Fair Winds Winery
1984 Hastings Avenue West
Port Townsend, WA 98368
Their Port O' Call and Gewurtztraminer are outstanding. This is known to be the area's first winery. Their wines are made only from WA grapes. I love their wine label with a drawing of a sailor overlooking the water. That alone is worth the price of a bottle, in my opinion.
Prices are good.
Sorensen Cellars
274 'S' Otto Street
Port Townsend, WA 98368
The location is a small business in an industrial park. It's nothing to write home about. They could use better signage. It is hard to find. Plus, there's a $2 tasting fee. There's no mention of that on any of their 'welcoming' signs. Only after entering the tasting room did I find that out. I have read that they are known for their red wines. I, personally, did not like them.
They do have a nice assortment of local printed information, though.
Bainbridge Island Vineyards and Winery
682 Highway 305 NE
Bainbridge Island, WA...
This is an exquisite winery you have to visit when in the area. It's family owned and there's a beautiful picnic area in the garden. Of course, they grow their own grapes. Plus, they have a wine glass museum that's just too fun to browse in. There is alot of passion about the wine industry in this place. That is nice to see.
I saw their wines on a local tv show recently. Beautiful labels depicting the Puget Sound and a ferry. That is Bainbridge.
