Winn Dixie Store Brand Changes: Something Worth Checking Out

Are Winn Dixie Brands Moving in the Right Direction?

I have noticed that Winn Dixie is making a serious move to improve and expand their store brands. So far I have been pleasantly surprised. While there are a lot of changes in the works, I want to focus on one I find exceptional, Winn Dixie's new line of stocks.

Winn Dixie had broths for years in their store brands. The new stocks are such a time saver I just had to say something. The chicken stock that I happen to be using tonight is excellent. It is well reduced and full of flavor. It makes me look like I know what I am doing in the kitchen which is a good thing. No seriously, it is a quality product at a very reasonable price. A time saver as well, I now can produce a great tasting chicken stir fry without having to reduce the sauce like I have had to in the past. Great flavor and consistency for a store brand product. The stock is so impressive that I now feel the urge to test and review most of their other changes in store brands.

That may be a lot of reviewing. In this economy anything to save a buck is worth considering. I have always been a fan of store brands for many staples, but drew the line for some brand name products. Now I may need to reconsider, at least I am going to try and compare Winn Dixie brands to some of my brands name favorites.

So far I have to say there is no discernable difference in the quality of Winn Dixie dry bean products and the big brands names. I am a dry bean nut in the winter and was very impressed with the quality of the Winn Dixie brand Limas, Black Eyed peas and Pintos. All three were virtually all whole beans/peas with no sign of the small pebbles or odd unidentifiable objects I have encountered in the past, very impressive in my opinion.

I am now looking forward to taste testing hundreds of new Winn Dixie store brands products. The chips will fall where they will, but so far I am impressed.

Interesting article. I agree that alot of store brand items are just as good as the brand name ones.
