Winner of the AC Flash Fiction Contest August 2009

Congrats to the Winner, Thank You to All

James Kerley
Thank you to all for making this the most successful creative writing contest so far! We received over 900 entries, and after a lot of reading and some very careful consideration, we finally have a winner.

Congratulations to Linda Ann Nickerson. Her story, "Knock No More" was selected as the winner of the flash fiction contest for August, 2009.

And an honorable mention goes to Maura Nicholson, for her story, "Avon Calling." Although this story didn't win, it was so entertaining that Maura will receive a $10 wild-card assignment as a prize for the honorable mention.

Two lucky entrants will also receive a wild-card $10 assignment just for entering. Congratulations to Julie Rule and Justin Schwan. They were selected randomly from the entrant pool to receive these high-value wild-card assignments.

We already have a creative writing contest lined up for next month. Keep your eyes peeled in your Assignment Desk, the forums, and on Twitter to see what the topic will be. It will be announced on September 1st.

Again, thank you to all for making this such a successful contest, and congratulations to the winner. See you next month!

Congratulations to Linda and Maura and the wild card winners. I read many of the submissions and wondered how they would choose a winner. As I read the winning entries I have to say, I think they chose well. Both of the submissions contained elements of good if not great, flash fiction-things that put them above just being a good short short story. Great job Linda, Maura and AC.

I have to agree with Grayce on this one. Now I'm wondering what criteria was used for making this choice. Very disappointed as there were many better stories without an overly descriptive beginning to choose from. BJ
