Winnie the Pooh Scrollin' Musical T.V. By Fisher-Price

Scrolling Along with Pooh and Pals

L
Pooh has a been a part of our household for nearly five and a half years now. When my daughter was just an infant, I scooped up just about everything I could that was Pooh related. I saw this adorable little Winnie the Pooh Scrollin' Musical TV a little under four years ago at Babies 'R Us. Although I knew my daughter (about 6 months at the time) wouldn't be able to actually turn the toy knob herself, I did think she would enjoy looking at the colors and all the familiar characters that we pretty much pushed on her since she was born. So for the low price of $9.99, I picked up Winnie The Pooh Scrollin' Musical TV and brought it home to try out.

Winnie The Pooh Scrollin' Musical TV

This musical toy television is made by Fisher-Price and features Winnie the Pooh along with a wonderful cast of Pooh's Hundred Acre Wood buddies. The television of course isn't a real television, and even the though the screen may resemble a television screen, the rest of the toy does not. When lying flat, the toy is maybe half an inch to almost an inch. However, the screen itself measures 5x5, and the entire toy standing up is about 8x9. As your child is facing the front of the toy, he/she will see Winnie the Pooh to the side of the television screen, smiling with his trademark red shirt on. Above Pooh and above the screen (an over the entire top of the toy) is a colorful green tree with a little yellow honey bee inside the leaves (but very visible). The yellow honey bee is the on/off switch. The honey bee needs to be pushed to the left in order for the toy to work. While facing the toy, on the right top side there is a yellow bulb jutting out which is supposed to a balloon that Pooh is holding. The balloon is what makes the toy function. Simply twist and twist the yellow balloon until you hear a click. Let the balloon go and the television will play. The sides and the back of the toy are purple, and the bottom front has green grass with a honey pot under a purple tree trunk. There are couple of orange flowers growing in at the bottom to give more of the Hundred Acre Wood appeal.

Once the honey bee is turned on and the toy is wound up, the 5 to 7 minute show begins. First Kanga comes hopping along with little Roo smiling out of her pouch. Next hops along Tigger on a Pogo stick. Tigger is really getting into his pogo stick. He is all smiles while a little frog hops along with him. Then along comes the moody Eeyore who seems more interesting in chasing little frogs than smiling. Last Piglet appears trotting along in line on on rocky horse type stick (I haven't seen these horse sticks in a while, but they were popular while I was growing up in the 80s). The show takes place as usual in the Hundred Acre Woods. In the background, one can tell that this is a beautiful day. There is a bright blue sky and pretty white clouds. A soft melody plays through out the entire show, but it isn't the famous Winnie the Pooh song. It sounds more like a classical lullaby. I would have loved to have this particular song on a CD that I could have to played to my daughter when she was younger. However, it doesn't say anywhere on the box or instructions just where the song comes from or even the name of the song. After the show runs for about 7 minutes, the Pooh characters start getting a bit slower then a bit more slower. Finally, the show will end and to see it again, simple wind the balloon.

Thoughts on Winnie the Pooh Scrollin' Musical TV

From a parent's point of view, this is a wonderful toy and a difficult toy. The colors are vivid and you can actually see the characters running, hopping, and moving their legs. For a parent it is easy to wind up, put your child in your lap in your lap, and watch a cute little show of the lively Pooh characters having a fun day on a sunny afternoon. This is good until children want to play with the toy all by themselves. Being that my daughter was only six months old when I bought the toy, we had no problems with her sitting down with us and watching the show. She thoroughly enjoyed it. But as she grew older, she wanted to twist and turn the knobs herself. The knobs just are not that easy for young ones to grasp. Even at the age of two , my daughter just couldn't fully get the balloon twisted long enough to watch the show on her own. The honey bee button proved to be just as tough. The bee button is pretty small and small hands have a hard time pushing it from side to side. I think this would have been much easier if the on/off button functioned by pushing it in and out instead.

Other than that, my daughter was excited to see all the familiar characters jumping and running in line on a screen that she could hold by herself. There were many smiles and coos and a few attempts to break into the screen and grab the characters out (this is a sturdy toy, so no luck for her!).

Final Recommendation

Aside from the difficulty of getting the knob to work on her own, my daughter really enjoyed this toy. She still plays with toy every now and then. It has also proven to be an extremely sturdy toy. We have had this toy for three years nows and aside from some minor scratches, it still works perfectly and the characters still jump and shuffle as they should. I cannot say that hours upon hours per day were spent with this toy. You cannot really expect too much time to be spent with a show that last seven minutes and plays the same scenario over and over. But over the years, this toy has been taken and played with and smiled at every now and then. At six months of age, my daughter was in awe of this toy every time I wound it up and played it to her. The colors are wonderful, the characters look real, but best of all this toy requires no batteries whatsoever. For the inexpensive price paid, along with all the other pros about this toy, Winnie and friends definitely get two thumbs up.
