Winona Ryder to Appear in Cheaters

Remember Winona Ryder, that cute little brunette from "Beetlejuice" where she played a Goth pre-teen in a sleepy country town in Connecticut? Now an adult at the age of 38 and 43 movie appearances later, she will have a major role in Ron Howard's film about infidelity. Winona will play opposite Kevin James, who is to portray her husband in the movie. James starred in "Grilled", "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry", and a handful of episodes in "Everybody Loves Raymond." Showbiz Spy reports the story on "Cheaters" where Winona portrays an unfaithful wife who has a dalliance with another man behind his back. One of her husband's friends (Vince Vaughn) catches her in the act but is hesitant about telling her husband about the affair.

"Cheaters" is a comedy that will have Ron Howard's special touch. Being a comedy veteran himself, Ron was Opie on "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Mayberry RFD" as a child actor. Winona had a rocky transition from being a child actress to an adult actress, battling depression, prescribed medications, and a minor run-in with the law back in 2001. Despite her personal troubles, Winona proved to be competent in front of the film camera, making memorable appearances in "Mermaids", "Heathers", "Little Women", and "Girl Interrupted." Her Oscar nominations are proof of her acting ability, and not being another pretty face in Hollywood.

The movie will be shot in Chicago and slated for release in the cinemas in 2011. Winona says she has no regrets over not portraying the character Lisa in "Girl, Interrupted", a role that went to Angelina Jolie. She was happy being Susanna, the young girl with the psychological problems who spent time in a mental health institution. Based on a real story and written by Susanna Kaysen, the movie won an Oscar for Jolie's portrayal of the ringleader sociopath at the institution.

Winona is also best known for having Timothy Leary as a godfather, and parents who were part of the 1960's counterculture movement that believed in communal living. One thing that many of her film characters have in common is writing, whether it is Lydia in "Beetlejuice" who keeps a diary, or doing a master's thesis as the character Finn Dodd in "How to Make an American Quilt." Fans of both Winona, and Ron Howard, will appreciate the movie when it is released next year.
