Winslet and DiCaprio Reignite On-Screen Chemistry in Revolutionary Road

Despite the soupy melodramatics that oozed from James Cameron's 1997 blockbuster, Titanic, the onscreen chemistry between Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio was undeniable. In Sam Mendes prolific Revolutionary Road, Winslet and DiCaprio reignite passion on the screen as April and Frank Wheeler.

As a 1950's suburbanite married couple, Winslet and DiCaprio capture the neuroses of their identity stricken characters with frightening precision. Unlike the teenage crush-like relationship the two portrayed in Titanic, Winslet and DiCaprio shake the screen with a different kind of passion; erupting in seething arguments and caustic accusations toward one another, each blaming the other for railing them into the trap of a life reeking of the "American Dream." Winslet in particular delivers an explosive and dizzying interpretation of April's despondent fifties housewife.

We believe that this woman has no way out of the hellish web of normalcy that she herself is partly responsible for; believable enough to earn her the Golden Globe for best actress in a drama. Viewers can be thankful that Winslet and DiCaprio punctuate the screen with such turbulent passion as Revolutionary's storyline often leaves us wanting...perhaps wanting to end much earlier. The plot bares an overall self indulgent quality while also being overly metaphoric. What Mendes filled in an hour and fifty-nine minutes, could probably have been condensed into fifteen minutes. Still, the captivating performance of the re-united Winslet and DiCaprio helped to keep us hanging on...just a little bit longer.
