Winter 2011/2012 Events for Kids in Southern New Jersey

Julie Wimmer
Winter time can be a tough time to think of things to do with your kids, especially if you live in a cold part of the country. Even when it is not technically the winter season in November, the weather can be too chilly for any outdoor activity. Below find some great events for you to do with or bring your kids to this season in Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia.

1) Garden State Discovery Museum

Cherry Hill, NJ

General admission - $10.95 12 months and up, seniors $9.95
This is a great place to visit in the Winter time, and they have plenty of special events coming up. Here are a few:

Breakfast with Santa - December 10 at 10am, stories, buffet and more $8 for members, $15 for non
Hurray for Hanukkah - Stories, crafts, snacks, songs and more Dec 18th 1- 3pm, concert at 3pm

2) Stellwag's Hidden Acres Farm
116 Hartford Road
Delran/Moorestown, NJ

This farm does not advertise big because they don't need to. A wonderful family owned farm that sells great flowers in warm weather, has hayrides in the fall, and also has "Sleigh Rides" after Thanksgiving until Christmas. Ride in a carriage with a blanket and bells through this beautiful farm. My kids loved it. The staff puts snowmen and winter stand-ups all around the farm for the kids to find while riding. When back inside, they usually have some kind of warm drink like cider and one of the best Santa's I've seen. Never a line to sit on his lap and take a free picture.

3) Camden Children's Garden
3 Riverside Drive
Camden, NJ

Weekends in December and January
Holiday lights, animated sculptures (lit up at night), heated tropical exhibit, Carousel and so much more day and evenings. Separate admission after 5pm.

    I'm sure it is fun... but I have learned to live (quite comfortably) in a place where cold winters and snow are relegated to childhood memories :-}
