It's winter in New York and there is arguably no better city to be in. The winter atmosphere in New York City is amongst the best in the world, if not the very best itself. To prove such a claim, New York City is sponsoring numerous events to go along with the classic events that are around New York. From restaurants to ice skating even to special events ranging from theatres to hotels, New York City is simply chock full of things to do this winter.

"Paint the Town" is a promotion that involves the entire city in a winter celebration with numerous special events and discount values on hotels, theatres and much more. NYCvisit.com, a web site devoted to tourists visiting the city, has extensive information on Paint the Town, including exactly which stores and hotels are having discounts during the two month event. The breadth of the discounts and events truly show when you examine what restaurants are participating. From 5 Ninth to World Yacht, over fifty restaurants are participating with 15% discount off total bills for dinner, lunch or brunch, depending upon the restaurant.

The shopping part of paint the town also includes a 15% discount, only with shopping it comes with an individual, regularly priced purchase rather than against your total bill. Some stores include receiving a gift certificate of a certain amount depending upon how much you spend in the store. Gracious home for instance, located on 1992 Broadway at W. 67th St. offers a $50 gift certificate when you spend $250 on merchandise in the store. Over twenty stores are participating, meaning that they'll probably be something for everyone to find. Once again, the official site for Pain the Town has all of the sites listed and additional information.

Hotels also follow the 15% off trend, mainly taking off from their best available rate, though some other different offers. The Blue Moon Hotel offers complimentary rooms upgrade while the Hotel Deauville offers a complimentary third night. Other specials include a free complimentary breakfast or a 15% discount at a local restaurant. The list is varied and over 40 hotels are participating in the promotion, so you'll be able to pick and choose which you want to stay at.

There is also discounts on nightlife such as admission fees into clubs and bars, discounts from salons and spas such as gift certificates or a percentage discount, and most notably attractions. World famous Madame Tussauds, Top of the Rock Observation Deck, Bodies...The Exhibition, Empire State Building Observatory, Harlem Spirituals/New York Visions, Liberty Helicopters and Shearwater Sailing are all attractions that have discounts as apart of Pain the Town.

For those interested in the Arts, Paint the Town also touches numerous places within those parts of the city. Carnegie Hall, Botanical Gardens, Museums, and many other places all have discounts and special admissions. Over 20 locations including the United Nations make the large list of museums and theatres.

Paint the Town lasts from January 2nd 2007 until February 28th 2007. For those simply looking to have something fun to do in New York, you'd be hard pressed not to find something that is involved in the large scale promotion. It's also a great chance for visitors to plan and save a lot of money when taking a trip to New York City. Also, you should be on the look out for restaurant week January 22-26 and January 29- February 2, 2007.
