Some of the lodgings have indoor heated pools, and there are game rooms and family activities. There are also movie theaters nearby and an ice skating rink. Whether you've come as a family, with friends, or as a couple, you will rarely be bored.
Winter activities in Yosemite include skiing and snowboarding, snowshoeing, ice-skating. These activities are by far the most popular for those visiting
Yosemite during the winter season.
Snowboarding and skiing
The oldest ski area in California, Badger Passis located in Yosemite and opens at the beginning of winter. There are various downhill runs ranging from beginner courses to more difficult. Skiing and snowboarding classes are available, as is gear rental from various shops in Yosemite. Lodgings often have equipment available, so check you're your lodge before going elsewhere.
Cross country skiing in another popular activity many visitors to Yosemite choose to do. There are several backcountry ski hits available for overnight cross-country trips, and as with all excursions deeper into Yosemite, you need a wilderness pass. For day trips, however, you can go with a guide or explore approved areas with your family.
Snowshoeing
Snowshoeing is basically winter hiking with strange foot gear and is a highly popular activity at Yosemite. Guided tours are available, and gear is available for rent at various shops located around Yosemite. If you've never tried snowshoeing but have always wanted to, Yosemite is a great place to try.
Ice skating
While there are no quaint little ponds to skate, there is an ice skating rink in Curry Village that is open from November until March. It is a large rink that can accommodate any number of people, and is great fun. Skate rental is available at the rink, as well as concessions like hot chocolate, coffee, and tea.
Complete with music and a fun atmosphere, the rink runs from morning to evening in three hour sessions. Open to both adults and children, it is a great activity to check out if you're staying in the
Yosemite Valley during the winter season.
