Winter Beauty Tips for Healthy Skin

Keep Your Skin Healthy in Cold Weather

Some winter beauty tips include washing your face less in the winter and using more cream. Some women who have dry skin may want to avoid washing their faces with soap too often in the winter. There are many good foaming facial cleansers and creamy lotions for removing dirt and oil as well as makeup residue. Hot water should be avoided at this time because it will rob the skin of moisture. Hot showers and baths should be limited and use a good moisturizer while the skin is still wet to seal in moisture.

Astringent lotions that contain alcohol should be avoided during winter. Aloe Vera gel and cooling cucumber juice make good skin treatments that feel good but do not dry the skin out.

One favorite winter skin treatment is to put on lots of rich moisturizer and cover with cotton gloves and socks for chapped skin on feet and hands. This does wonders and makes your skin really soft and smooth. This is also very good for people in professions where they do a lot of handwashing. Soaps and cold weather dry the skin on hands very quickly. Nurses and daycare workers should carry a small bottle of hand lotion and apply after every handwashing.

Do not skip exfoliating even in the winter. Body scrubs can be used in the shower once a week and facials should be done once a week if you have flaky skin. Skin cells are constantly renewing themselves, even in winter. The scrubbing action stimulates the blood flow to the skin and causes the cells to regenerate. Be care when choosing facial scrubs that you do not use products made with crushed shells which may irritate the skin by causing little nicks and cuts from sharp edges.

Treat your self to a moisturizing mask made with 1 avocado,1 teaspoon honey,1 teaspoon lemon juice and 1/2 teaspoon milk. Mash the avocado with a fork until smooth. Add the lemon, honey and milk and stir to make a smooth paste. Apply over face and neck area, leave on for 15 to 20 minutes and rinse well with warm water. Finish up with a soothing moisturizer.

Be sure to use lots of moisturizing lip balm during the day and at night before going to bed. Chapped lips are painful and scaly, peeling skin is unappealing. Use a good lip balm with sunscreen for daytime when you are outside because you can still get sunburn in the winter. Make sure all of your moisturizers contain a good sunscreen.
