Winter Birthday Party Ideas

Children who have a birthday during the winter season may seem to have limited options for their birthday parties. Winter birthday parties do take some creative planning but can be just as much fun as a beach birthday party or a day at the park. Hunter's birthday is in January and I've had to get extremely creative, so I thought I would share some of my winter birthday party ideas for parents who have run out of winter birthday party themes.

Pool party: Yes, you an have a pool party for a winter birthday party. If you live up north like I do, you can have a pool party by renting a motel room for the night at a place that offers an indoor pool. In fact, some golf resorts will lower their rates in the winter time because they have a lack of customers. These can be great places to have winter pool parties.

Super hero theme: You can leave the theme open to all types of super heroes or focus on just one group. For instance, you might want to have an "X-men: The Last Stand" birthday party. Using one particular movie for the theme of the super heroes makes it a lot easier to plan games that revolve around a specific movie or book, but you can really have any kind of super hero party you want by asking guests to dress up as their favorite super hero and planning the activities around that theme.

Bowling: A bowling alley is the perfect place to host a winter birthday party. Call the bowling alley ahead of time to reserve a few lanes to accommodate all of the guests. When you call the alley, ask about league times and group rates so that you can schedule the winter birthday party around times and finances as needed.

Skating rinks: Does your child like to roller skate or ice skate? Why not rent a rink for a winter birthday party? Most rinks have birthday party packages available. One of the benefits of having a winter birthday party at a rink is that the activities are already present and your cleanup is limited.

Rock band jams: If your child likes to play Rock band or Guitar Hero, they might enjoy a jam session with their friends for a winter birthday party. You can host a playoff or just let the children jam away on their instruments. To add some creativity ask your guests to dress up as their favorite rock star.

Game shows: Make your own game show for a winter birthday party. Use any game show as your template or come up with your own. Kids can answer silly questions or compete in silly games. Make sure everyone gets a prize so all the kids are happy. Of course, the birthday boy or girl gets a special prize at the end.

To have a successful winter birthday party, you really just need to think about the interests of your child and use them to get creative. Even if you have a birthday party at home instead of going somewhere, you can still get creative and develop some interesting themes.

How great! Imaginary awards could be given as prizes. Of course some of the kids would be jealous if they didn't all receive the same thing. Jealousy is an ugly thing - Milton.
