Winter Carnivals in New Hampshire 2009

White Fun in the White Mountains

Winter Carnivals in New Hampshire draw thousands of tourists and locals each year to get out and have some white fun in the White Mountains and beyond. Because the state customarily has more than its fair share of snow and plenty of sub-freezing temperatures, New Hampshire relies upon nature to a great degree to provide the basic ingredients necessary for a spectacular winter carnival in New Hampshire - snow and ice. Added to the help New Hampshire gets from nature, the state also benefits from industries and individuals used to working in cold weather conditions. Winter Carnivals in New Hampshire are a long running success because of this dependable combination of nature and human resources.

If you have never been to a winter carnival in New Hampshire before you may want to take things easy your first time out. Instead of getting yourself involved in a multiple day event you might think about visiting a one day winter carnival in New Hampshire in Colebrook, New Hampshire. In 2009 the Colebrook Winter Carnival gives you a bonus because it is being held on Saturday, February 14, 2009 which means those who plan ahead can make the event part of their Valentines Day or Valentines Weekend celebration.

No matter what reason prompts your visit to the Colebrook Winter Carnival once there you won't have to hunt very hard for fun activities. Yes there is ice carving but that's only the beginning . For the little ones part of the Colebrook Winter Carnival is the Little Jack Frost and Snow Flake Pageant. With cooperative weather families or couples can enjoy snow tubing, dog sledding and even a chance to enjoy a snowshoe relay. Like your winter activities a wee bit slower, not to worry. At the Colebrook Winter Carnival you will also find a cribbage tournament and bocce competition. If you want multiple days of mega activities you may want to look elsewhere but if you are just breaking in to the winter carnival scene, the Colebrook Winter Carnival is a good choice.

Concord is the state capital of New Hampshire and takes its leadership position seriously. That 's why it's probably no surprise that Concord citizens take pride in setting an example of good clean winter fun by organizing their own annual Winter Carnival. in 2009 the Concord Winter Carnival is scheduled for January 24 with a back up date of January 31, 2009.

Lots of fun winter time events are loaded into the three hour time frame from 1-4 p.m. You and your family can feel. The activities are planned by the Concord Recreation Department and the "Friends of White Park" who together also sponsor the afternoon of winter fun. You can participate in cross country skiing, sledding and speed skating. This is a low budget affair but that doesn't mean you can't fully enjoy the chance to engage in winter fun activities, sit around a comfortably warming bonfire or sample some of the treats offered by vendors. Anything that starts off with an "intergenerational parade" gets my attention as a place where community fun is going on. Check it out at http://www.ci.concord.nh.us

You know you have likely hit upon something special when an event makes its way into Frommer's ( http://www.events.frommers.com ) and that is exactly the case with the annual Washington Valley Winter Carnival in the North Conway, New Hampshire Area. We first visited the Washington Valley area for a family Easter getaway at a sibling's condominium and were amazed at all there is to see and do there for people of all ages and interests. Another layer of activity is fitted into place during the winter months of course, with one of the highlights being the Washington Valley Winter Carnival celebrated in 2009 from February 27-March 7, 2009.

It is rather traditional for winter carnivals in New Hampshire to center around some form of snow or ice sculpting and the Washington Valley Winter Carnival upholds that tradition with snow sculpting for all to enjoy. But the activities spread well beyond just making incredible figures out of snow and ice. People who come to the winter carnival in Washington Valley will love the chance to ice skate, snow tube, go snowmobiling, even ride aboard a dog sled. You will find great food here with a local favorite being what turns up at the Chili Cook Off. If you have been to Washington Valley before but never in winter, you may be missing its premier season and to event in the Washington Valley Winter Carnival. For more details connect with http://www.northcountrychamber.org .

My boys and I are avid snow campers. These February activities sound fun. Why are poeple so afraid of 25 degree temps? They miss out on "cool" stuff!
