Winter Craft Project for Kids: Create an Octopus

Winter Gloves Without a Match Still Have Hope - Fun Craft for Kids

Lyn Vaccaro
After the holidays, it becomes a challenge to keep the kids occupied while the winter wind blows. Winter craft ideas can help to fill in some of the boredom, but part of the challenge is picking an interesting craft idea that will succeed in engaging the kids for awhile. So I looked around the house for whatever inspiration I could seem to muster up and once I spotted my bin of mismatched gloves and mittens, my quandry was over. I thought of a cute octopus winter craft idea made from a filled winter glove. Perfect for those gloves with no match. Check it out!

Supplies:
Large pom-pom
Single glove
Needle and thread
Buttons
Wire
Felt
Hot glue
Ribbon
Dry Rice or white popcorn

Instructions:

1. The first thing you need to do, is tuck the thumb portion of the glove to the inside of the glove. Next, sew that opening that's left as a result of doing that shut with your needle and thread.

2. Fill the glove with your dry rice until it's pleasantly plump, and then tuck the cuffed area inside the glove.

3. Next you'll need to stitch the area closed that you just tucked in to secure the rice inside of the glove.

4. Hot glue the large pom-pom to the top of the octopuses head. Once that's accomplished you'll need to put a stitch or two above the finger area of the glove. Do this by pinching a small portion of the glove together in that area, and then sewing a couple of stitches.

5. To make the legs look like real tentacles, simply glue buttons along the underside of each of the octopus's legs.

6. You can dress up this creature by making earrings for him by threading buttons on your wire pieces and gluing those in place.

7. Next, use your felt to tie around the pom-pom to further accent the octopuses hat. Or cut some felt and glue it around the pom-pom to construct a hat with a brim type of look.

Once this little guy is done, the kids can plop him on his base with his legs sprawled out around him on top of any flat surface, to create a cute display for their room or play area. Could you think of a better way to use those mismatched gloves that have no use?
