For the peanut snowman pin, you will need a few items. These include a butter tub, glue, white poster paint/paintbrush, peanut, styrofoam take-out tray, scissors, tablespoon, salt, black and orange scraps of construction paper, ruler, red yarn, and a safety pin.
First, mix a bit of glue into a tablespoon of white paint in the butter tub. Paint the peanut white. This will be the snowman's body. To give the look of sparkling snow, sprinkle some salt on the wet paint and lean the peanut against the side of the take-out tray to dry.
Cut a hat, some eyes and buttons for the pin from the black paper. Craft a button nose from the orange construction paper and glue the hat, eyes, buttons and nose on the peanut snowman.
Cut a short piece of red yarn for a scarf and tie around the snowman. Glue the scarf down. Once the scarf has tried, place the back of the safety pin thru the scarf on the back of the snowman.
You can wear these adorable pins on your sweater or coat all winter long!
Make some cute Yarn tree ornaments with green yarn and some colorful sequins! To begin you will need green yarn, scissors, a ruler, a craft stick, white glue, a take-out styrofoam tray, red felt scraps, sequins (assorted colors & shapes), and green rickrack.
Make a wrap of green wrap around your hand (cover your hand from the crease where your thumb meets your palm to almost the top of your fingers). Slide off the wrap from your hand & cut the end off the main ball of yarn. Cut thru the loops two times to make equal bunches of yarn. Make a hanger for your ornament by cutting a 6" piece of yarn and gluing the two ends at about half way down one side of the stick.
Cover your craft stick with glue and lay it down on the styrofoam tray. Glue one pile of yarn strands across the stick but leave about 1" free of yarn at the bottom. Do the same on the other side of the craft stick and let the glue dry. Shape up the yarn to make a tree shape. To give your tree a shaggy look, glue the trimmed pieces back on.
Make a red felt base by cutting two identical pieces, one for each side. Glue the pieces together with the craft stick in the middle. Decorate one side of your ornament with sequins and then put green rickrack around the red base.
These are really cute handmade ornaments!
For hours of cheap entertainment, craft some craft stick ice skaters. For these you will need markers, scissors, craft sticks, plastic cups, water, and aluminum foil.
First, decorate your craft stick to look like an ice skater figure. Don't forget the hat, scarf, leggings, and skates. Make it colorful and wintry. Now, fill the plastic cup half full with water. Cover the cup with a piece of aluminum foil. Make a small slit in the center of the foil. This is where you will place your craft stick and make sure it stands vertical. Now you are ready to freeze your craft in the freezer. After frozen, warm the cup's outside surface with warm water and wait for your ice skater to pop out. You will be amazed at the tricks your skater will do across a tile, ceramic, or wood floor.
Enjoy these crafts with your kids this holiday season.
