Winter Crafts: Silver Snowflake Flower Pots

Landra Lynn Jacobs
If you are looking for a cute way to dress up your indoor plants this winter, consider this simple silver snowflake flower pot craft. This project also makes a great goodie holder for cookies, candies, and other holiday gifts.

For this project, you will need (per flower pot):

- One terra cotta flower pot in any size (available at local garden shops)
- Wooden snowflake shaped cutout (available at craft supply stores)
- Medium or fine grit sandpaper
- Tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Regal Blue
- Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Silver Foil
- One inch wide grey colored satin ribbon
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Epoxy glue
- Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth

To start this winter craft project, first cover the space you will be crafting at with sheets of old newspaper and/or a large drop cloth. Carefully sand any rough spots on the flower pot with medium or fine grit sandpaper. Wipe down the outside of the pot using a tack cloth or other style of soft cloth to remove any dust or grit.

Turn the terra cotta pot upside down on the workspace. Prime the bottom and the outside of the flower pot using a couple even coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. (You should not be able to see the brown of the terra cotta through the primer. If so, keep adding coats until you do not.) Let the primed pot set for an hour or so.

Paint the bottom and outside of the flower pot using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Regal Blue. Add a few coats of blue paint until you reach a deep blue shade. Let the pot dry completely.

Sand any rough spots of a wooden snowflake shaped cutout. Again, wipe down the piece with a tack cloth or other soft cloth. Prime both sides of the snowflake using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Once dry, paint the snowflake using Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Silver Foil. Add several coats to give a shiny appearance. Dry completely.

Heat up the hot glue gun. Cut a length of one inch wide grey colored satin ribbon. Secure one end to the back of the snowflake with a dot of hot glue. Wrap the ribbon around the flower pot horizontally, securing with small dots of glue every half inch. Finally, secure the end of the ribbon to the pot and the snowflake onto the top of the last ribbon end. Insert a favorite plant or other item once the glue has cooled fully.
