Winter Night Thoughts

Wiley Vaughn
Tonight my dear wife holds me close
As though she knows
This icy cold and wintry blast
Searches through my soul.

As death stalks about this winter's night
Looking for his prey
And any unfortunate enough to be
Fallen into his way.

I've been fed and lie in bed
While others hunger still
And shiver in the night's cold
More worthy than I.

Given gifts a king could well envy
Faithful wife, loving children
Yet I always seek quite earnestly
For more, ever more.

I say of course it's not greed
Just a real need
For the hard times that come
Upon us with age.

As though I don't trust my Father
His kingdom to share
To meet real needs in truth
But not my lusts.

The pure and white new fallen snow
Speaks of a Judge
Righteous true, without mercy for sinners
Who rejected his forgiveness.

Even though He truly saved my soul
Wonder I still do
Will I be a worthy servant
When the accounting comes.

It's only human nature that makes us want more all the time. Just the fact that you acknowledge what you have and the fact that you want more despite what you have, makes you better than many!
