Winter is here and some days children wind up inside, especially because of bad weather. A great activity to keep little hands busy is coloring. Here are several websites that offer free coloring pages for you - and they have lots of winter-themed coloring pages that you will enjoy.

When children sit down to color remember to protect the surface they are working on, either with a piece of newspaper or a larger piece of paper. Give your children crayons or non-toxic markers to color with. Remember that if markers do not say they are non-toxic, do not take a chance - assume that they are toxic and should not be used by children.

Hang your children's completed artwork in a place where the whole family can enjoy it. The traditional location for coloring pictures is of course the refrigerator, but another great place to hang artwork is to get a bulletin board and to use this to feature your children's artwork. Date their artwork on the back of their pieces so that you can remember how old they were when they drew certain things. You can store finished coloring pages and other artwork either in a large box (like the type you would use for Christmas ornaments), or another great idea is to use a large scrapbook and to showcase their artwork in this. Have a different scrapbook for each child if you have more than one child in your family. This will be a nice way to look back and enjoy their artwork from childhood once they have grown up.
