Winter Resources and Outlets for Homeless People in Horry County

The 2011 winter season has been a brutal one for many homeless people whom reside on the Grand Strand. It is also a time where the homeless population has grown to alarming numbers in Horry County , in fact DSS has had a record number of Horry County residents filing for SNAP/Food Stamp Benefits.

Horry County has stepped up their effort in the last several years in aiding and providing relief to the homeless community that reside in Horry County .

Horry County Soup Kitchens and Shelters provide healthy meals and shelter from the cold during the winter months. The Following resources will provide valuable outlets for homeless men, women, and families.

Coastal Rescue Mission is a shelter for women with children; the center is located in Loris-4350 Bryant Street , the mission also has a food pantry and thrift store. The Coastal Rescue Mission has been a savior to many homeless women with children, but the shelter is in need of help in maintaining their Beautiful Women's Gate Shelter. The Shelter experienced a broken pipe that has placed a burden on the shelter raising money for 300 families that would allow them to feed and aid these homeless families.

Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach is located at 1411 Mr. Joe White Avenue ; their mission is to provide food, medications, financial help, and housing. The center provides valuable resources for families; this facility is best served as in person service.

Promised Land Ministries is located in Galivants Ferry; the facility offers a safe place for desperate and hurting people whom are in need of guidance, and a place to stay during the winter months, and beyond the winter season.

Street Reach Ministries is located at 509 9^th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach . The community outreach center provides emergency food in the winter months, in addition to providing shelter for homeless people in Horry County .
