Winter in the Rocky Mountains

Carmella Mae Dunkin
Some would probably say, "winter in the Rockies? No thank you!" Our family on the other hand, not only are we excited about spending the Winter in the Rockies, we are doing it in an RV! Now some would say, "you are absolutely out of your mind to want to spend the Winter in the Rocky Mountains". We don't think we are crazy, in fact we think it is smart compared to the Winters we are used to in Indiana. Long drawn out Winters, with little sunshine, always cold, and damp.

From what all the locals here tell us, we are in for a beautiful Winter. Pikes Peak is a scenic attraction for us here, and the snow covered peaks are absolutely awesome! We are told that even though we may get many feet of snow, the sun comes out and makes it feel warmer than it really is, and the snow usually only stays around a few days. We already had a 15 inch snow, and it was gone within 48 hours. It sure was beautiful while it was snowing too. We are in the woods, and the snow falling all around in the pine trees was just absolutely beautiful.

We have settled down for the Winter in a very nice RV park in the mountains. We are in the woods, but at the same time, we have a super Wal-Mart, Safeway, and Walgreens all within a three block walk if we had to walk for what we needed, so we are not worried, we are actually looking forward to getting snowed in. We've never been snowed in before, and we think it could be fun to have a few feet of snow to play in with the kids.

The RV park we are staying at for the Winter is not only in the woods, but there are hills everywhere. This means great sledding adventures for the kids, as well as for mom and dad. The kids are already having a blast sliding down the many hills here in the park, but after the snows start to fall this Winter, sliding will take on a whole new form and adventure all it's own.

Besides the adventures I have listed here, there are many other adventures to be enjoyed here in the Rockies during the Winter. We have ski resorts, tons of RV parks and resorts, Garden of the god's, 7 Falls, and The North Pole, complete with Santa's workshop for the kids.

You're tougher than me! We lived for eight years in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where the cold weather and snow almost killed me. I'm happy when it's seventy degrees, dry, and sunny. :-)
