Summer has ended and your skin is screaming from the toll it's taken from outdoor activities and the summer elements. Sunspots, moles and small creases that weren't there before are now surfacing giving way to the need of a new beauty routine. Although some areas offer warm or cool weather year around dramatic climate changes are harsh on the skin. Winds and cold weather are just as damaging to skin as over exposure to the sun. With the change of season you should also remember to change your skincare routine.

Hot Showers

The colder it is outside the more likely you are to turn up the heat in your homes and shower. The dry heat in your home can be dehydrating and increase the chances of having dry, cracked and peeled skin. Overly hot showers can strip the skin or natural oils needed to keep it supple. Immediately after a shower liberally apply a heavy moisturizer or an essential oil to protect your skin and lock in moisture.

Facial Wash

Facial washes offer so many choices but regardless of oily, dry or combination skin it still needs to be exfoliated to create a glowing complexion. Exfoliate at least once or twice a week with a gentle exfoliator depending on your skin type. Different brands will carry different grades so make sure it's one that will be less irritating for your skin type. The objective is to slough off dry skin; not create red patches or irritate acne buy using something too abrasive.

Moisture Rich

During the summer an oil-free moisturizer may be necessary due to every day activities but during the winter set this product aside and use a hydrating rich moisturizer. There are also hydrating rich facial gels created with B-5 and hyluronic acid, which is naturally found in the skin. It binds and attracts water to maintain softness and helps minimize free radical damage. Moisture rich creams and lotions are also available with sunscreen but choose a moisturizer that offers at least SPF 30. Dark winter days can be just as dangerous if not more than sunny days because burns can still occur whether it's cloudy or raining outside.

Tinted Moisturizer

Nothing looks healthier than glowing skin but the weather doesn't always permit outdoor activities or exercise. Some areas offer little sunshine during the winter months but tinted moisturizers can add that luminous glow to skin without going outdoors. This gives you the option of having tan skin without streaking and tan palms, as well as, eliminates the need for a tanning bed.
