Winter Snow Photo Collage Craft Project

Celebrate the winter season by making a snow covered craft project that helps you display cherished photos. Materials needed for this winter craft include personal photos, a piece of rectangular shaped cardboard, one bag of miniature marshmallows, a hole punch, one 36 inch or 54 inch shoelace, one Popsicle stick and one bag of medium size cotton balls. You will also need brown construction paper, light blue construction paper, glue, scissors, a magazine photo that features an exterior view of one large house. Cover the entire surface of your cardboard with the light blue construction paper, using glue. This covered side will be used as the main background of your winter snow photo collage.

Cut out the house in your magazine photo using scissors to remove extra space and distracting elements surrounding the main image such as text. Cut one of the windows out of the house magazine cut-out and then tape a photo of either yourself, family members or friends in place of the window. The tape and photo should be positioned behind the front side of the magazine image to help create an illusion that your photos are peeking out from inside the house. Replace additional windows with photos of different people if desired. You can also use several photos of yourself that were taken during previous holiday seasons to replace the windows.

Attach the finished house, complete with your personal photos to the cardboard using glue. Draw a tree shape, complete with branches onto the brown construction paper. Cut your tree shape out using scissors and then use the extra construction paper to draw additional branches. Cut the extra branches out, set them aside and then glue your main tree shape to the cardboard piece. The tree can be positioned next to your house or on the opposite end of the cardboard scene, depending on the overall layout that you desire. Attach the extra branches to your tree using glue and then pull several cotton balls apart.

Spread additional glue over the bottom of your tree, house and open areas of the cardboard scene using the Popsicle stick. Press your pulled cotton balls onto the glue, using more or less cotton as necessary. Line the top sides of each tree branch with several miniature marshmallows and secure them with glue. Add embellishments to your snow covered tree branches such as stickers featuring leaves, cardinals, blue jays or other winter elements that you favor. You can also draw a snowman in an area between the tree and house on your cardboard collage to enhance the winter scenery.

Make one hole each in the upper left and right corner of your cardboard collage using the hole punch. Loop one end of your shoelace through the left hole on the cardboard and then tie a small knot. Repeat this looping process using the opposite end of your shoelace and the right hole. Hang your finished winter snow photo collage on a door, wall or window hook.
