Recently my husband and I took a trip from Rockland County to Brooklyn, NY, and braved the snow to walk to our old neighborhood to see our family and old friends. When we returned home, I took some pictures of the Suffern, NY, area too. The downtown area has a beautiful gazeebo which contains a lighted Christmas tree across the street from the Lafayette Theater. This is one of the pictures accompanying my article. The Sacred Heart Church is right across the street too, and the architecture of these structures is very enjoyable to see. There are several oudoor landscape scenes with the remaining snow from a couple of recent snow storms, but my favorite one shows a bright daytime sky with a Christmas tree in the center. When you visit Rockland County, be sure and visit the Nanuet Mall which is empty enough to take your time perusing the stores and to get a good walk indoors during the cold weather. You can stop for coffee at the Starbucks across from the Nanuet Mall or you can enjoy a coffee right in the mall. Nearby is another very nice but busier Palisades Mall which has many more stores and activities for families. By the way, the Lafayette Theater has an beautiful old organ that is played before certain movie performances. If you plan to go there, you should check the time for the next performance of the organist.
