Couples having a church wedding can save money on flowers if the church is already decorated with Christmas flowers and plants, such as poinsettias. One way to add Christmas flavor to the ceremony venue is to drape small strands of lights and green garland around any poles, beams, or staircases. Also incorporate gold or silver spray painted pine cones, ivy, Christmas wreaths, decorative bells, candles, and plenty of red and green accents in the decor. Shimmery organza ribbons in gold, silver, or red can be used on the end of each row in the guests' seating area.
In the reception area, continue to set the mood with warm, soft lighting provided by candles and strands of lights hung strategically throughout the area. Strands of lights look especially beautiful from ceilings that have rafters. Simple white tablecloths set the stage for bursts of color provided by centerpieces and accents such as red napkins. There are many ideas for Christmas wedding centerpieces, many of which can be "do-it-yourself" projects for crafty people. The DIY Network has a tutorial video for a lovely table scape here which would make a festive centerpiece at a Christmas or winter wedding. Centerpieces can also be made out of assembling candles or Christmas ornaments and holly on a decorative plate with crystal accents. Snow globes, miniature Christmas trees, or gingerbread houses can even be used to decorate tables. Alternatively, you can use red tablecloths instead of white to warm up the room with color.
When choosing Christmas themed wedding favors, there are plenty of options. If you have a friend who is gifted in the kitchen, enlist his or her help to bake and decorate favors like gingerbread cookies, Christmas sugar cookies in shapes of angels, stars, snowflakes, or reindeer. Dress up the presentation of baked goods with clear cellophane wrappers tied neatly with red or silver ribbon. Frosted snowflake votive holders, ornament keepsake boxes, snowflake shaped wine stoppers, and stylish hanging Christmas ornaments also make great wedding favors. Small favors can be presented in colorful small gift boxes tied with ribbon with name cards attached either under a Christmas tree at the entrance or on each table if a miniature tree is used as a centerpiece.
