Winter Weddings: Tips when Choosing Fabrics & Attire

Susan Brown
Winter weddings can be beautiful and very memorable times in everyone's lives - but there are a few adjustments to make to the wedding party's attire seeing as dresses that are sold (and, preferred) can bring on the chills - you know, the sleeveless, strapless, etc. styles. So, seeing as you are going to be bearing your arms ... or simply enduring the coldest months, what are some things you can do to ensure your wedding is still flawless and stylish? Here are some great tips.

Dress the wedding party (and you and the groom!) warm. There are a number of ways to sylishly do this, including going with the dress(es) of your choice and then adding little shawls. I once saw pictures of a gorgeous wedding and all the girls were wearing matching dusty blue-colored pashmina scarves over their shoulders. It made a beautiful and stylish statement!

Indeed, when it comes to your wedding gown, you are want to at least have another layer on hand if you aren't going to wear it. Especially if your dress is sleeveless or strapless, you may want to add a wrap, shrug, or cape ... and you can do it in white to match your dress, or you can do it in one of the colors that are in your wedding.

Use rich fabrics for both the attire and the decor. Velvets, satins, brocade fabrics, and heavy silks are perfect choices. You can use them for the bride's maids dresses, or even for tablecloths and other fabric items.

When it comes to colors, you may want to dress the entire wedding party in white to complete the winter white look. It lends a really nice chic and clean look to the entire event! But, of course, as mentioned you can have them wearing cover-ups like shawls in a color that perhaps matches your wedding flowers.

And speaking of flowers, you can have lots of fun with this aspect of your wedding! Try and incorporate lots of winter whites in the bouquets, but don't forget to use lots of color as well, seeing as that perhaps may be the only place where you can use lots of color. Either choose your favorite color, or perhaps go with rich pallettes like royal purples or even dark burgundy. Very gorgeous!

Indeed, your winter wedding can be the event of your dreams if you plan properly and dress appropriately! It will be a memorable event for everyone involved!
