Holiday Magic abounds in Historic Downtown Grapevine. Thousands of lights decorate the homes and the many quaint shops offer special activities. Texas couldn't get any "cooler" than at the Gaylord Texan Resort in December. With over one million lights, electric trains and a visit from Santa Claus, you are just getting started on a wonderful Winter Wonderland experience. The Gaylord Texan offers a little something for everyone with it's indoor gardens and river walk that contends with the famous River Walk in San Antonio. There are several shops, restaurants and a day spa to delight any one who enjoys being pampered. But, at Christmas time the Gaylord turns things up a notch with a flair that is all Texan and includes a Texas sized, 40 foot tall Christmas tree and live reindeer! You won't want to miss the life sized gingerbread house and a walk through the beautiful nativity scene. Let us not leave out the most awe inspiring exhibit that the Gaylord Texan offers at Christmas and that would be their ICE! exhibit. This is a truly amazing display of over two million pounds of ice that are sculpted by artists from China. Over 35 people work together for more than a month to create the multi-colored , holiday sculptures that will dazzle and astonish you. There are ice sculptures of beautiful, colored trains, as well as your giant sized cowboy boots. You will be overwhelmed with delight as you see the trees made from ice sparkling with white lights. The kids will have a ball as they slip down exhilarating ice slides and walk through a candy land filled with yummy indulgences. There is even a 25 foot angel and a life sized frozen Santa's lap where you can have a frosty seat. If that weren't enough fun to be had, you can go ice skating and then visit the ICE! store where you can buy gifts to take back home. The hours are Sunday - Thursday 10am to 9pm and Friday - Saturday 10am to 10pm and runs between November 14 and January 3, 2009. The cost is $20.00 for adults and $10 for children 4-12. Seniors pay $18 and kids 3 and under are free. It is certainly worth the price of admision as you will be truly stunned by the incredible display. This is an event that you definitely don't want to miss and one you will come back for year after year.
