The change of season- my need to hunker down...
I pass through this portal while the earth is sleeping
with a shivering body, a warm heart...
The trees have finished with their artistry-
splotches of red and amber,
colors of a fire in a hearth;
all tumbled and fallen to the ground
leaving a stark greyness
and a forest of stick-figures
for a new horizon.
Every shiver that the morning brings
leaves me wishing for a human warmness
to wrap myself inside of,
a sleepy glance and a half smile;
legs to tangle myself in
in a heart I can call home.
