It is time to start thinking Winterfest in Grand Haven Michigan. The snow is upon us and we are all thinking about getting out and playing. Grand Haven's Winterfest is a good time for all. The festival starts the last weekend in January. With Michigans winters being long and cold, this is a perfect time to get out and be active. There are plenty of activities to keep everyone warm and having a great time.

Winterfest has been around Grand Haven since 1979 and has grown into a big event along the West Michigan shoreline. This is an interactive festival with many participants getting involved from the very young to the old. Activities are indoors as well as outdoors.

Winterfest kicks off with family fun night at Mulligan's Hollow. This is a dollar ski and board event from 4PM to 8PM with $1 lift tickets. As the weather looks now there will be plenty of snow for this event. However, we do live in Michigan and things could change.

Other events that will be going on during the Winterfest are, dog pull and ever-popular cardboard sled race and the human sled race. These events are scheduled for Friday and Saturday. There is also the ice sculpting contest at Jack's at the Holiday Inn and Old Boy's Brewhouse in Spring Lake. The sculptures are usually placed throughout downtown Grand Haven after the contest is over.

On Saturday night there is a big Luau Extravaganza held in the Municipal Marina parking lot. The event is held in a heat tent form 8PM until midnight. Those 21 and older looking to escape the winter blast are invited to join this tropical event sucking on your favorite tropical drinks and doing the hula or jumping in a Conga line to all the great music provided. Don your beach wear for this event as it gets plenty heated up.

There are many other activities to enjoy on the Winterfest weekend. They are having a photo and poster contest at the art museum, hamster and gerbil races, snow angle contests and many more activities.

The public is also able to purchase a Music Pass or passes. These passes get you into the local bars for music, fun, and drink specials on both Friday and Saturday nights. The passes also get you into the Winterfest Luau.

West Michigan's Winterfest has lots to offer for the whole family. There is plenty of lodging available for out of towners. To find more information on Winterfest in Grand Haven, Michigan go to winterfestonline.org
