Winter's Day

Villanelle

Julie Abrams

How quickly the days gone by

Have entered a short reprieve,

As winter freezes far and nigh.

Through the clouds the geese did fly.

Warm days they'll soon retrieve,

How quickly the day's gone by.

An old man watches asking why,

The trees do seem to grieve,

As winter freezes far and nigh.

A young girl waits nearby.

She does not want to leave.

How quickly the day's gone by.

To block the wind, or reach the sky

The snow cannot deceive,

As winter freezes far and nigh.

Winter comes, a heaving sigh,

It blows while we receive.

How quickly the day's gone by

As winter freezes far and nigh.
