Reporter RWIS
The Reporter RWIS is a big step up from the basic Westinghouse model. Reporter is known for its quality standards in the wireless intercom arena and for a few bucks more is well worth it. This system features a 4 channel system with a range of 1,000 ft. The set comes with 2 units for around $80.00 and additional units can be added on at a price of $45.00 each. The system can handle up to ten different simultaneous conversations or broadcast a message to all units.
Chamberlain Wireless Portable Intercom System
The Chamberlain system features many of the same qualities of the Reporter RWIS, with it's set of two units, range of 1,000 ft., and ability to add on additional unit and carry 10 conversations simultaneously. The big advantage of the Chamberlain is that it is completely portable, run on 4 AA batteries that keep the unit always on for up to two years. Any other Chamberlain intercom device is completely compatible with this system. The two unit set will run you around $150.00.
JOBCOM JBS 146D
This system differs from the others in that it offers a central base-station that transits on a more secure VHF frequency. The units are bought separately for around $230.00 each, but they have a 21 channel capability that can work with any other 2-way radio, portable or stationary, operating on the same frequency. The unit is able to be programmed by a licensed dealer with up to 5 unique frequencies for extra privacy and the system is also capable of operating gates, doors, and other wireless devices.
Radioshack 4-channel 900Mhz VOX
This little number is one of the best there is. It is a 4-channel system run on a 900Mhz frequency and powered either by the AC adapter or 4 AA batteries. Some of the unique features of this two-unit set are the VOX mode, which allows voice activated transmission with no buttons needing to be pressed. It is expandable with the purchase of extra units, includes audio connections for a radio, CD player, or boombox to be connected and broadcast on the intercom units. The two-unit system will run you $76.99. Quite a deal.
As you can see, the intercom system does not have to be expensive and can add some much needed functionality to your home. Instant communication can be key in any home or relationship. Just think, now there will be no where to run from an impending argument!
