Wisconsin Cigarette Tax Rising $1

For Wisconsin residents, the new $1 tax on cigarettes will raise prices of a carton to forty dollars. Does the government think this is going to raise revenue? Yes, they do, but they have forgotten one thing. You can find one person with a good car with good gas mileage to drive to Missouri, buy cartons of cigarettes for people and charge five dollars a carton plus the price of twenty dollars of the carton and still buy a carton for cheaper than you can before the price increase.

Find ten people who want five cartons every two months and charge twenty-five dollars for the carton. The driver will receive five hundred dollars for his trip, which will cost about two hundred dollars and sixteen hours of time. He will make three hundred dollars for sixteen hours of driving. Now, is Wisconsin government that smart that they think people are not going to find a way to keep smoking for cheap?

They do not realize that people are smarter than they are and will do exactly what they have to buy cigarettes for cheaper prices. Missouri's government should be happy with the increase in tax dollars that Wisconsin residents will be giving them. It is a win, win situation for smokers in Wisconsin and Missouri's government.

You cannot think that by raising the cigarette tax that people are going to quit smoking. It will not happen. They think kids will not turn to smoking because of the price. I think they forgot about how kids get money for drugs and alcohol, they either have it or steal it. Therefore, crime should be on the increase shortly after the first of the year.

You cannot raise taxes to force people to confirm to your way of life. There are ways around the increase and you can bet, someone is going to drive to Missouri for cigarettes and make some money doing it as well. It is going to be a matter of time before the first car leaves to buy cigarettes for their friends. Everyone should have the freedom to smoke or drink, taxing everything beyond reach is just an infringement of ones rights to drink or smoke and live a free life.

If you are not in prison or in public living quarters, you have the right to live your life the way you want without the government trying to make more money off of you or force you to quit, which can be just as unhealthy as smoking if not done correctly. Smoking is a stress reliever for many people, can you imagine what will happen if people cannot get a cigarette.
