Wisconsin Dells...Destination Fun!

Amy Hartwig
Every year on Memorial Weekend there are six of us that take what we call a girls weekend away. This has become a much needed and deserved yearly tradition. We have always stayed in Wisconsin Dells. Wisconsin Dells is about an hour and half drive from where we all live. We were getting away yet it was still close enough to home in case of an emergency. So far no one has wanted to change the location. We know the area well and have lots of fun. I have also gone up there with my family for a fun filled weekend stay. Doesn't matter what season you choose to go. There is always something to do. Although they have more visitors in summer than any other season.

Wisconsin Dells has a lot of offer if you are looking to get away with family or just friends. Wisconsin Dells has been called the "Waterpark Capital of the World". There is an estimated three million visitors a year. The Dells is located along the scenic Wisconsin River in Wisconsin.

Waterparks
During the summer months there are outside waterparks that draw in tons of people. Some of the places I mention below also have indoor waterparks that are perfect for a winter getaway. The resorts that have indoor waterparks also provide lodging and restaurant accommodations. Here are the six most popular places to stay or visit for a day or night of water fun.

Noah's Ark offers over eighty activities for your family to enjoy. You pay for a one day pass and get to enjoy all that they offer. The activities include forty-five water slides, two humongous wave pools, a couple of endless rivers, and four kiddie pool areas. They also have a drive-in theater, mini-golf, bumper boats, arcades, and on-site restaurants.

Chula Vista Lost Rios Waterpark has a multi-level indoor and outdoor waterpark. They have twenty six water slides, lazy rivers, and a wave pool.

Kalahari Resort and Waterpark has the largest indoor waterpark in the Dells. They also have a huge outside waterpark area. Some of their more unique attractions are the indoor stand up and surf Flowrider, Master Blaster uphill water roller coaster water slide, and a family raft ride.

Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park is the newest waterpark from all six. Go-karts, mini-golf, and roller coasters are just a few of the other things you can do besides swimming. Thehave both an indoor and outdoor waterpark area.

Riverview Park & Waterworld has the largest selection of what they call U-Drive 'Em rides. They have amusement park rides and a huge waterpark area. They claim to have the lowest priced all-day tickets.

Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort has everything a waterpark should have including the Slide Down Hurricane water ride. They are open year around as they also have an indoor waterpark and lodging.

Other Activities
There are many different places to go if you enjoy nature in the Dells. It truly is one of the most beautiful places to tour.

River Tours are very popular in the Dells. Some of the tours take you through caves and cliff-walled gorges. I have personally taken a few of them and always found it to be worth the money. Some of the tours you get wet on and some don't.

Live Entertainment can always be found night and day. Comedy clubs, Broadway Dinner Theaters, and Magic Shows are just a few of the live shows you can go and see. Many of the local pubs offer karaoke, DJ's, and bands in the evening.

Museums and Exhibits and other places to explore can be found in the Dells. You can find anything from haunted houses, Ripley's Believe It Or Not! Museum, and sci-fi exhibits.

I have described just a portion of some of the places you can stay or go and see in Dells. You won't be able to see it all in one weekend. That is for sure!
Did I fail to mention that the whole downtown is filled with gift shops? Can't forget about that. There are multiple campgrounds if you prefer to "rough it". I have even looked into staying at some house rental properties. This would be perfect if we were thinking to stay for about a week.

Wisconsin Dells is one place that you need to stop at if you are visiting Wisconsin. Us Wisconsinites love it!
