There's a lesson to be learned. Wisconsin voters this past election joined several other Midwestern states by running to the right. Scared by corporate funded Tea Party rants against healthcare, voters succumbed to fear. President Obama was made out to be "the other," not born here, not a proper Christian, not the right color. Thoughtful voting gave way to the politics of fear.
Not only did Wisconsin elect a corporate stooge trying to execute a hostile corporate takeover of the state, they voted out one of the best Senators in all of America, Russ Feingold. Of course, some voters just chose to stay home, and didn't directly vote for the far right. May they learn a lesson too.
We often hear the phrase "elections have consequences." Yes, they do, and Wisconsin is in the middle of figuring that out. New polling data suggest that if the election were held today, the results would be quite different.
When it comes to a recall for Scott Walker, an even 48 percent were in favor and opposed. That's a striking number for a governor only a couple of months in office. Too bad Wisconsin law doesn't permit a recall until the governor has been in office for at least a year. With polling like that, he has to hope he can hunker down and ride it out.
Polls also show that if the election were held now, Scott Walker would lose to his Democratic opponent, 52 percent to 45 percent.
When asked whether they supported Walker or the public employees, 37 percent back Walker, 57 percent support the unions on the question of taking away bargaining rights. Nationwide, 61 percent of Americans said they would oppose a similar law to what Walker is supporting in their state.
The deep recession gave Republicans a huge opportunity to make big gains and keep them. They were able to take seats in Congress in 2010, as well as governorships. They seem to be doing all they can to ensure 2010 was their peak.
Pushing regressive social issues, forcing corporate takeovers of public functions, working against civil rights, going after government employees, dismantling the good parts of government - Republicans just keep jumping the shark.
Republicans in Wisconsin and at the national level have awakened a slumbering labor movement, and are sure to see union activity actually increase. Who knows, we may even see Wal-Mart workers organizing!

Post a Comment" When American voters are polled they are overwhelming in support of Gov. Walker and his bills "
Actually Keith, today's Rasmussen poll (widely known as leaning to the right) shows that most people disapprove of Walker and his antics.
Kieth, your rants are long and all over the place, but you do make sense at one point - you say make our own steel - yes, real wage earning jobs, with union workers, making real livings. Also, you say the richest country in the world shouldn't be borrowing -on that we agree too..roll back not only the Bush tax cuts to the rich, but take them back to what they were before Reagan...the wealthy who have been on the receiving end of a huge distribution of wealth need to be weaned, not the working class. Also, those who avoid taxes altogether should pay their fair share. Businesses shirking taxes by operating on the internet or offshore aren't doing their part. On a funny note, you say the tea parties aren't about shouting, while using ALL CAPS, widely regarded as shouting online.
Walker is a lunatic. He wants to eliminate Advanced Placement classes in public school. That is so detrimental to the educational system.
Also, if he'd stop giving tax breaks to big business he'd have extra income out the wazoo
Great article
Strange – I read thru many of your articles over the last couple years - My predictions have been almost 99% accurate - ANY QUESTIONS?
Jeff, The one thing you just don’t get – The Tea Party is not about, SHOUTING, MARCHING – So, 1960’s – It’s about a VERY large group of VOTERS, that don’t pretend to have all the answers – but KNOW that the richest country IN THE WORLD – should not be borrowing money from other countries to survive. It’s time FOR REAL change. Drill again, make our own steel, and not buy it from China…Progressives need a gut check… I mean a real gut check…. Government (TAX PAYER) Cradle to Grave is over!!
Ohio’s bill Passed – So will Wisconsin’s – The hiding 14 Dem’s from Wisconsin will have to come back some time! What a bunch of “Panty A$$ wimps†Image: 14 Republicans hiding, not willing to vote – I could only imagine what your bias articles would state – Let’s take a crack at it: - White State Senators, hiding out in Southern States…
You watch WAY too much MSNBC. - When American voters are polled they are overwhelming in support of Gov. Walker and his bills –Polling on Rachel Maddow Show (far left poll – what a joke). It ALSO is has nothing to do with the Obama being black -Your use of race is getting old -It always makes your debate look weak!! Federal workers do not have “Collective Bargaining†– Jimmy Carter signed the bill to stop it (he was White – does it make a difference!!). Neither should State employees. Individuals should have the opportunity to “Join†or “Not Join†a union if they choose. Another thing - It’s also time to use the word “Companies†– Why are “Companies†leaving this country in mass and building their products overseas?
