Wish List of Middle School Teachers

Gift Ideas for the Classroom

Elena dal Friuli
If you ask a middle school teacher what would be a good gift idea for the holidays, you are sure to hear that school supplies or gift certificates to school supplies stores or bookstores are always welcome. If you were to follow their lead, the next items would be some gift ideas to consider.

Plain and/or Colored Computer Paper

Reams of paper are not that expensive and teachers are always grateful to receive them. These papers are used to print students' papers, notes to parents, notes to post on the walls, outlines, lesson plans, etc.

The schools used to have a limited supply on hand for teachers to use, but with the budget cuts the school systems have had to endure, computer paper has become a luxury item.

Pens and Pencils

By this time of the year, the supply of pens and pencils teacher began the school year with has now dwindled into nothingness. Students are constantly asking to borrow a pencil or a pen to complete an assignment. Pencils get lost on buses and down the school's hallways where cleaning crews pick them up and throw them away.

Helping teachers build a new supply of pens and pencils will be a gift received with much appreciation.

Tissues and Hand Sanitizers

Especially during this season, these two items seem to be in high demand. Sending some refills to the classroom will keep noses clear and hands clean. There is nothing more irritating than noses that keep on sniffling because there are no tissues on had to get them clean. There is also nothing more unappealing than touching papers, pens, pencils, chairs, desks, and any other school items that have been previously contaminated by germs.
Help keep the classroom semi-sanitized and clean by sending these supplies as gifts during this holiday season.

Room Fresheners

Middle schools are high hormone, body odor conglomerates of very active students. If you ever go visit a classroom, you will notice how plugged into an outlet sits an air freshener, or tucked in a bookshelf corner sits an air freshener spray.

Teachers use these items not just because they like the scent emanated, but because they mask the aroma the students bring with them, especially after a physical education class.

Find out which fragrance your particular teachers enjoy and send them refills to last them for a while.

Gift certificates

If none of the previous ideas are appealing to you, then consider a gift certificate from a school supplies store, or a superstore, or a bookstore. Any amount will make a teacher happy as that gift certificate, along with other gift certificates will be spent to purchase much needed supplies for the classroom.

A teacher will agree that these items are not glamorous, but this same teacher will be the first to agree that these gifts go a long way in helping a classroom run smoothly and in helping teachers redirect their personal funds, especially during a year of budget cuts with furlough days.
