Wish List of Preschool Teachers

Gift Ideas for the Classroom

Elena dal Friuli
In preschool, children learn colors, numbers, and letters of the alphabet. They also learn to make basic crafts and play different games. Some of the materials necessary to develop these activities will be provided by the school, but many of the supplies will be provided by the teacher.

Following are a few gift ideas for preschool teachers. All of them can be found at regular dollar stores, superstores, office supply stores, warehouses, and school supplies stores.

Construction Paper

This article comes in many different sizes and color combination.
It is perfect for the classroom because each sheet can be used for a multitude of activities:
1. Children can use the sheets to paste leaves, pictures, pasta and rice, drawings, etc.
2. The sheets can be cut up in strips and/or shapes and used to create chains, collages, etc.
3. Laminated, these sheets create nice place mats to be given as gifts to family members
The possibilities are as endless as the teacher's creativity.

The price will range based on the size of the pack and the type of construction paper.

Coloring Utensils

Jumbo crayons, washable markers, finger paints, sidewalk chalks, and coloring pencils are items found in most preschool classrooms.

It seems that there are never enough of these coloring tools for the children to use and, because students engage in many activities requiring coloring, this gift idea will be certainly welcomed.

Tissues and Paper Towels

Children at this age seem to always have a nose that needs to be cleared. Boxes of tissues will come at handy not only during cold season.

Paper towels are always needed to clean up spills, clean those little hands after a craft activity, and serve as a place mat for snacks.

Whether you decide to buy one box or one roll, or invest in the big pack, your teacher will be very glad to have a supply on hand.

Large piece puzzles

These puzzles come in many different themes. They teach letters, colors, shapes, animals, body parts, and numbers, or they might just be a pretty picture for the child to put together.

Whatever theme you choose, make sure that the pieces are large enough that your preschooler can pick up with ease and put in place in a relatively easy way.

These puzzles will be great for children to play with when it is too cold or wet to play on the playground. They will also help to keep children occupied as the teacher works with one student at the time on specific tasks.

Books

Teachers love books. You will never hear a teacher say that there are too many books in a classroom.

Choose books that cover different age groups and difficulty levels as every class will have the child who reads below, on, or above grade level.

Dollar stores and superstores will have a limited selection of books to choose from; therefore, you may want to visit on line distributors or your local book store.

You can choose to create a gift basket including one or two of each item described above, or you can just buy one of the articles listed. Your teacher will be happy with whatever you will give her as it will help her keep the classroom functioning and your child learning.
