In practice, most witches use candles of a standard size and type while others prefer to make their own. The size and shape of the candles you use is unimportant, although highly decorative, large candles, or unusually shaped candles will not be suitable as these may create distractions when the person wants to concentrate on the important work in hand. Most practitioners prefer to use candles of standard or uniform size if possible. With regard to the shape of your candles this is not uniform and really is your own personal choice.

Some witches believe that if a candle is home-made then the act of creating a candle is in itself a personal and highly magickal ritual. If you prefer to make your own candles then you can find a variety of wax, scents, wicks and candle molds at your local Hobby & Craft Store. However, a vital factor is your candles must be new and unlit as in most Magickal Rituals "virgin" materials are used as any form of negative energy or vibrations can be emitted from secondhand material.

Early candles were made of vegetable waxes produced from plants such as bayberries, candelilla leaves, candle-tree bark, esparto grass, and various varieties of palm leaves such as carnuba and ouricury. They were also made of animal tissue and secretions, such as spermaceti(whale oil), ambergris, and beeswax (insect secretions).

For those who regularly practice Candle Magick they know how important it is to carry out your ritual in a quiet or sacred place. It is a personal choice if you wish to carry out Candle Magick naked (be careful of falling hot wax) or in fresh new clean cloths. Incense can be lit to create the atmosphere required for your ritual, anointing your candle is highly important

This produces a psychic link between the candle and the person carrying out the ritual. Touching the candle will charge it with your personal vibrations.

Throughout my daily life as a witch I may do several spell-workings per day and there is nothing as simple candle spell. Witches, Wicca and other pagan religions have always incorporated the concept of dual deities, the god and goddess;
