Witch Vs Wizard: Which Being is More Popular Today?

Witches and wizards are extremely popular today in large part due to the Harry Potter series of books and movies. But witches especially have been a popular topic in America for a very long time dating back to the Salem Witch Trials conducted by the Pilgrims dating back to the 1600's.

Countless books and movies have been done about witches but nothing has ever been seen before that is as popular as Harry Potter. But does that mean that wizard beings are more popular today than witch beings? Even though Harry Potter is about a wizard the popular Hermione Granger in the series is also a witch. So which is more popular today?

In order to answer that question I ran both witch and wizard through a number on Internet websites to see which name turns up more results online. These are the answers.

Google Search

Witch - 33.1 million results

Wizard - 44.5 million results

Wizard turns up 34% more results on Google than witch does.

Global Monthly Searches

Witch - 2.24 million global monthly searches

Wizard - 3.4 million global monthly searches

The Google AdWords Keyword Tool gives users the number of global monthly searches that are done for any given word or phrase. In this case wizard is searched for 52% more often than witch is.

YouTube

Witch - 243,000

Wizard - 199,000

On YouTube witch turns up 243,000 links to videos while wizard turns up 199,000 links to videos. So witch is 22% more often linked to a video on YouTube than wizard is..

Amazon

Witch - 44,919 results

Wizard - 77,071 results

Wizard has 72% more results on Amazon than witch does. A little surprising since many more books have been written about witches than wizards however the Harry Potter books about a little wizard with a scar on his forehead is the most popular series of fictional books of all time.

Who is More Popular Witches or Wizards?

The overall results show that both witches and wizards are very popular online today and are often searched for online today by many people. But it is also clear that one of these beings is more popular than the other is today.

Wizard is much more popular in the search engines as it turns up 34% more results on Google and is searched for 52% more online today than witch is. Wizard also turns up 72% more results on Amazon than witch does almost certainly due to the popularity of Harry Potter. So despite the fact that 22% more videos are linked to witch on Youtube than to wizard overall it's pretty clear that wizards are far more popular online today than witches are.

Sorry Hermione but Harry comes out ahead on this one.
