"I happened to be in Vancouver for the Vancouver Film Festival and I took that as an opportunity to take a crack at some of the shows being filmed out there on the West Coast."

Kristin Booth, the beautiful and talented thirty-four year old native of Kitchener, Ontario Canada and graduate of the BFA Honours Acting Program, Ryerson Polytechnic University, explains how she came to audition for the role of Renee, one of the housewives turned witches in the Supernatural season three episode Malleus Maleficarum which is airing on the CW Network this coming Thursday, January 31st at 9PM EST.

Supernatural which stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles as Sam and Dean Winchester: two brothers engaged in the 'family business' of traveling the highways and byways of Americana in black '67 Chevy Impala with a trunk full of weapons designed to fight all manner of supernatural related threats. The hit Warner Bros series, now in its third season on the CW Network has cranked up the action, suspense and drama this season with the Winchester brothers not only facing down supernatural threats and saving people from them, but being at war with the horde of demons they had inadvertently released in the season two finale, All Hell Breaks Loose. Top that off with a desperate race against time to get Dean out of the deal he made to bring Sam back to life, a deal that trades Dean's soul off into hell in one year's time, and Supernatural is one wild ride this season.

Malleus Maleficarum, which derives its title from the name of the text used by Inquisitors to aid in the identification, prosecution, and dispatching of Witches, is the latest installment in that 'wild ride'. I caught up with Kristin Booth to discuss her guest starring role in this episode as Renee one the members of the witches coven that the Winchester brothers have come to Massachusetts to investigate and deal with. I asked Booth to give readers a bit of her own personal insight into the character of Renee and what she thought motivated her character to join a witch's coven.

"Renee is a 'Type A' power hungry, desperate housewife," Booth explains her feelings about what brought her character to this situation. "I think she was incredibly bored and dissatisfied with her life and saw witchcraft not only as an escape from the boredom, but also as a fabulous way to get everything she has ever wanted: money status, power."

And what did Booth think might be her character's most dangerous aspect as someone who had become a witch? "You really have to watch out for those 'Type A' personalities, especially when they have the power to shrink your head," she tells us with a laugh.

Booth was also quick to point out that even those types of witches have to watch out for having run-ins with demons like Ruby, played by regular recurring cast member Katie Cassidy.

"Demons are terrifying and possess crazy physical strength, don't mess with them," Booth tells us and speaks from the vantage point of having her character of Renee come out on the losing end of tangling with a demon in Malleus Maleficarum.

Of her time spent on the Supernatural set in role of Renee, Booth says she found the experience to be something she really enjoyed. "Definitely the most fun was working with Erin Cahill and Marisa Ramirez the other two main guest stars. They are great ladies and talented actresses."

Booth tells us that the three of them got along so great that it sort of posed a challenge for her to overcome while filming. "I would say that the most challenging part of portraying Renee was remaining in character with the two other actresses Erin and Marisa because they were both so much fun that I really just wanted to chat with them and get to know them better." Booth says that the three of them are still keeping touch with each other since the episode finished filming.

Booth tells us that, though most of her working on set in Malleus Maleficarum was done with the other guest stars, she also found it a pleasure to work with the two series leads, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. "We had a lot of fun," she says of working with them and goes on to explain that in fact everyone was really nice to work with on the set of Supernatural.

As Renee in Malleus Maleficarum, Booth had some physical scenes to film as well and says that the most rewarding thing for her as an actress in these scenes was the one involving her character's death. "I would say the most satisfying thing for me in this role was probably perfecting the 'neck snap' and then dropping dead to the floor out of frame where I remain for the rest of the episode."

Booth says that this end to her character also posed another interesting challenge for her while filming this episode of Supernatural. "It was hard to keep my eyes closed when the big battle was taking place all around me," she laughs. "I wanted to watch them work."

Kristin Booth is next appearing in the Canadian CBC series, MVP: The Secret Lives of Hockey Wives, which airs on Fridays at 9PM EST. She also had role of Abby in the Independent Film Young People F**king, written by Martin Gero and Aaron Abrams and directed by Martin Gero and which garnered rave reviews at the Vancouver Film Festival last year and will be coming to select theaters later this year.

Meanwhile viewers can catch the lovely Kristin Booth in her role as Renee, one of the 'kitchen witches' out to make trouble for Sam and Dean Winchester in the Supernatural episode Malleus Maleficarum airing this coming Thursday night at 9PM EST on The CW Network.
