With Heartfelt Sympathy

Don't Take Life for Granted

Lee Hansen
My heart is full of care and compassion for those who have been faced with the death of loved ones in the recent past. And for those who have lost the companionship of your pet, I am so very sorry for your loss.

While vacationing, a male friend who attended a local church where I was once a member passed away suddenly from a massive heart attack. It was further complicated by the fact that it caused him to be in an accident.

I then learned of a friend who served as a supervisor, whose co-worker was found dead two days after his brother's death. He was making funeral arrangements, not knowing in the least that he would soon be joining his brother. My heart aches for the mother and other family members who are confronted with this new reality.

These individuals were going about the business of living, working and providing for their families.

With the rapid succession of these deaths, I could not help but to think of how fleeting life is some times. Death doesn't always give us warnings. In some instances, it just seems to happen out of nowhere.

When I hear about these situations it makes me realize more and more my own mortality. Death is not something that you or I will be exempted from. It becomes a time of deep reflection.

Spring is desperately trying to rear its glorious head. It reminds me of a time of renewal and fresh beginnings. It seems to bring out the best in people. I love to see all the beautiful plants and scenes of nature that God provides for our enjoyment and pleasure.

And as I ponder the losses that so many are experiencing, it makes me want to savor every single moment that I am blessed to have. It makes me appreciate people in my life more and not take them for granted.

I want to embrace life to its fullest while not sweating the small stuff. All too soon the curtain falls before our last performance is played out. When my time is up, I want my family, friends and loved ones to look back and say she enjoyed her life and she touched many. But even in the midst of those shed tears, they will find hope and comfort because they know I will be in the presence of Jesus.

Again, to all of you who are experiencing the losses of loved ones or pets, I pray that God's strength will sustain and carry you through these dark times.
