With 'I Surrender,' Lil Rounds Shows Talent on American Idol's March 31 Show

Lil Rounds Brings that Big Voice to a Classic Song

The judges on American Idol were right, Lil Rounds does need to change her song choices to something more contemporary, but there is no denying the talent that this young lady has. She stepped onto the stage to sing "I Surrender" on the March 31 show and took your breath away immediately.

You could sense that something classy was coming just from her appearance. She was dressed in a classic light blue evening gown and looked absolutely stunning in it. While her choice of a song may have been very safe and old fashioned, her version was anything but.

She continues to take heat from the judge's panel for not singing more upbeat songs, but does she really need to? She has an incredible voice and can hit any note that she wants at any time that she wants to hit it. The fact of the matter was that she carried this song on her shoulders and delivered a winner that will keep her around for another week.

It is tough to agree with these judges all the time, but they do have a point. We may never know how talented this young lady actually is until she really opens up. You can only imagine what it will be like when she lets loose a little bit. This is a case where she is playing not to lose instead of playing to win. If she continues to play it safe and do songs that she knows are not even challenging to her, she will stick around until the final 3 or 4, but when it is time to take a risk, she will be in unfamiliar ground and will more than likely fall flat on her face.

Lil Rounds moves on this week, but she is going to have to start taking risks over the next week while she is facing off against people that do not have close to her talent. Realistically, this is a 4 or 5 horse race. The difference is that the other top competitors and taking some risks and improving while she continues to tread water.
